What is your Learning Style?
Yes, we all have a learning style... read to know your learning style!
Being a learning enthusiast, this is one of my favourite topics.
I believe we, humans, are lifelong learners. We learn some or other things almost on a daily basis. Some learning is structured and formal while some is unstructured and informal. Important is that learning takes
place whether we want to or
not. But, the question is how do we learn best? Have you ever taken a pause to think about it?
If not, please take a pause and read my quick blog on different learning styles. Yes, we all have our own learning styles in which we learn best, which means we grasp the information faster than any other style.
Before we delve deep into it, ask a few questions to yourself! (self reflection time 🙂)
What is my preferred source of learning new information? Books, blogs, videos, podcasts, practical experiences, or any experiments.
Do I prefer more of a quiet corner, organized setup, or a dynamic and interactive environment?
Do I prefer to observe others, their actions and the results before getting into an action or do I prefer trial and error and learn from my own mistakes?
What kind of activities keep me engaged? Movies, classroom lectures with teachers , drawing and designing activities, or any problem solving activities.
Once you give deep thoughts to these questions, you will know yourself a bit more. Self-awareness, 1st step towards your personal growth!
There are 3 main learning styles that knowingly or unknowingly we align with while acquiring any information.
Visual
Auditory
Kinesthetic
Visual Learning: If you are a visual learner, just like me then
You would prefer to learn from a blog or a book where images, diagrams, charts, or infographics are used to explain the concepts.
You like colorful presentations of any information.
YouTube will be your go to place in case you are trying to learn any new skills or gathering information on any topics.
You prefer watching documentary movies rather than reading books or files filled with plain text.
You like taking notes during lectures or presentations using colored pens, icons / symbols, and drawing doodles (Sketchnotes)
You excel in your imagination and visualization skills and these abilities help you enhance your creativity.
Auditory Learning: If you are an auditory learner, listening is a key for you!
You prefer lectures, podcasts, discussion, debates, radio shows, audiobooks, etc. to absorb information.
You like more clear and precise language while acquiring any information.
Just like our visual learner, you too go to YouTube to gather information. However, you will select videos where listening skills can be used more compared to visuals. For instance, TedTalk, interviews, music, guided meditation, speeches, language learning, etc.
You like recording the lectures, discussions, or a speech for your future reference.
Being an auditory learner, you are definitely a good listener and excel in any listening focused activities. You try to focus on each and every spoken information during lectures, discussions and podcasts. However, your listening may get impacted due to external or environmental distraction.
Kinesthetic Learning: If you are a kinesthetic learner………….
You thrive on hands-on experiences.
You are not a classroom person, you like to experiment and get engaged in activities.
Problem solving case studies, role plays, and any stimulating activities are your favourites.
This quote by Benjamin Franklin is definitely for you - ““Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I may remember. Involve me and I will learn.”
Being a kinesthetic learner, you are active, energetic, enthusiastic, curious, impulsive, and action-oriented. You don’t like to be at one place for a longer time, you prefer to be doing some or other things.
We all have these learning styles in us and we use them as per the situation. However, we all have one dominating learning style which matches with our personality. It definitely shows our preference but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have traits of other learning styles.
So, understand your learning styles / patterns to explore the world of learning!!
Keep learning & keep shining!
